Latest News: CVP-Mitcorp deliver TV studio to BBC in Kabul

23/03/2009 11:12 - Submitted by Phil Baxter

Our in-house System Integration team have recently supplied a three-camera studio to the BBC's World Service for deployment out in Kabul, Afghanistan.  The studio is based around three Sony DSR-450WSPL DVCAM camcorders and a Sony DFS-800 production switcher - The system strikes a neat balance between capability and flexibility.

The BBC also specified an additional aim of making the install process in Kabul as quick as possible. The CVP-Mitcorp team thus completely built and tested the studio in the UK, before disassembling it ready for shipment by the BBC out to Afghanistan, where Mitcorp Systems Manager, Stuart Currie, estimated that a two to three man team could bolt it all together in a few days.  “We wired it up to the last nut and bolt and tested it fully,” he explains. “Every aspect was tested, even the feeds to the wall boxes, and we undertook as much as we could here in the UK to make sure that the assembly team could complete the job in as short a time as possible. We even put cable termination panels on all the equipment racks so that they could just plug them straight in.”

Ali Shah, BBC World Service Technology Manager, said ”The testing that Mitcorp and the BBC team completed in the UK gave the BBC the confidence to deploy the system to Afghanistan.  The on site install went smoothly and this is a testament to the hard work put in by CVP-Mitcorp and the BBC back in the UK and the close working relationship between the teams.  Working with Stuart and his team was a pleasure.”
